The Problem Whenever I attempted to boot in to XP in VMware, it would give me a BSOD with the following message;

Hence the solution in short is to simply go to your vmx file and change all references to your PATA hard drive from SCSI to ide. I had exactly this problem trying to get a P2V Windows 7 install up that I no longer had access to the Physical Disks, just the vhd created from disk2vhd ages
One of the main reasons was because my laptop only came with a software restore and it refused to work within vmware to a virtual disk.

I was getting STOP 7B after VMware Converter failed at 98%. I tried to not include this in the conversion, but then I get a warning that there is no system disk.Thanks,Nick. To trouble shoot this problem efficiently, I suggest that you speak directly with a Microsoft Support Professional so that the crash dump can be analyzed. A bad patch?
