I took the drives out of RAID and used a single drive for the test. I will never buy one of them again for server storage. It is possible that they do not go into deep recovery mode, but I cannot say whether that is the case (it is not specified on the spec sheet). Actually the 1,000,000 rating is puffed up marketing.

Since they are based off of the WD Green Power hard drives they are low power, low heat and low RPM (think noise), which is great for a DVR and longevity.
