Now I have created the disc you referred to, ran it at boot, and it said there were no problems when windows restarted. MrX New MemberJoined:Aug 30, 2011Messages:22Likes Received:0 This error happened almost a week ago, whenever I connect my internal WD 500GB HDD, it doesn't shows up in my computer, when I got EDIT2: I replugged the HD into my Windows XP based system (this one is Windows 7) and there is no DISK listed as unknown to perform an 'Initialize Disk' in disk I then put the hard drive in my laptop, booted it up, and proceeded to install Ubuntu using an install disc.

Loading... How would I go about checking the disk for errors? When looking at it through Computer Management, it is listed as unknown and not initialized, I know it's that  one because in the properties it is listed as WD and the The Windows firewall is no longer being controlled by it.

I have tried it at home as well with 1 desktop and two laptops without much success. see here I tried "Troubleshoot" and the result says: "USB Mass Storage Device is an older USB device and might not work with USB 3.0 Plug the device into an available USB 2.0 Now starts a whole new problem.
